I thought I might post one of my favorite prayers. It is the reason for the name of my blog. It became a family prayer when my mother bought me a key chain with the prayer inscribed on it many years ago. Since then my mother has passed away, which makes this prayer that much more sentimental to me. My brother and I often refer back to it when we are going through whatever challenges life throws at us.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
The recognized author of this prayer is Theologian, Reinhold Niebuhr; However, the actual author is unknown because different versions of the prayer have been in use as early as 1936. Niebuhr used the prayer in one of his sermons in 1943; first published in 1944 in a Federal Council of Church's book for army chaplains and servicemen. Niebuhr did not publish it himself until 1951.
The prayer was adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous in 1941, which is where it gained much of its notoriety.
May this prayer help you in some aspect of your life.
God Bless,
Dana
