Intention

Greetings..... I want to thank you in advance for stopping by. It is my hope that if you take anything away from this blog, it will be a better understanding of Religion and Philosophy and perhaps some spiritual enrichment.

I have started this blog originally for a class in Digital Tools for my Communication Undergraduate study. I am fascinated by the subject of Religion. The purpose of this blog is primarily to inform the public about various religious denominations and philosophies. However, this is a personal blog; much of the information that I will be sharing is based on my own research and personal experiences. My only expertise is my own relationship with God and my quest for knowledge and understanding of God and Religious Philosophies around the world.
As readers, we all have a response-ability to question and assess the information we are given in a 24/7 media saturated world. So...I encourage you to do so; on the right hand side of the blog page, you will find a list of reputable "Informational Websites" from my research.

If you have any questions or comments, I welcome your feedback!

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Dana

Serenity Prayer

I thought I might post one of my favorite prayers.  It is the reason for the name of my blog.  It became a family prayer when my mother bought me a key chain with the prayer inscribed on it many years ago.  Since then my mother has passed away, which makes this prayer that much more sentimental to me.  My brother and  I often refer back to it when we are going through whatever challenges life throws at us.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
The recognized author of this prayer is  Theologian, Reinhold Niebuhr; However, the actual author is unknown because different versions of the prayer have been in use as early as 1936.  Niebuhr used the prayer in one of his sermons in 1943;  first published in 1944 in a Federal  Council of Church's book for army chaplains and servicemen.  Niebuhr did not publish it himself until 1951.
The prayer was adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous in 1941, which is where it gained much of its notoriety.

May this prayer help you in some aspect of your life.
God Bless,
Dana

All things Spiritual....

The purpose of this blog is talk about religion, spirituality and philosophy.  It will not be to preach anything.  I only wish to educate, inform and maybe give  a different perspective on life.   I certainly hope for myself to gain a new perspective in my research and through your feedback.   So please feel free to respond!!
I will be researching different religions and philosophies.  I am not sure what all I will cover in my research..I am going to take it as it comes to me.   I would like to cover the mainline church denominations in America: Christianity (Lutheran, Methodist, New Testament, Evangelical, Mormonism...just to name a few..).  Catholicism, and Judaism.  My research will be to try and differentiate between them, if there is any.  I will be attending these churches and try to get some first hand knowledge about such hot topics as gay/lesbianism, divorce, and  church doctrine.  I may or may not be listing any of these specific churches in my blog.
I will also be covering some philosophies from spiritual teachers that are not affiliated with churches.
I hope you enjoy reading my posts and get out of them as much as I do by writing them!
